DAAW is the Devon Applied Arts Workshop (or "DAA Workshop" for short).

In 2018, Ceramicists Rupert Johnstone and Alice Hartford and Glass Artist Matthew Le Breton set up the Devon Applied Arts Workshop as a purpose built Educational Workshop. It houses the two businesses, Le Breton Traditional and RAMP Ceramics (Roop and Al Make Pots!) and also allows space to teach using a central Educational area with kitchen facilities and toilets. The space is light and clean and the ideal environment to teach classes of up to 12 people. Halfway between Exeter and Tiverton and set amongst the rolling fields of Mid Devon this inspiring location has ample parking, easy access and peace and quiet (except for the sheep!). Within the space we have a range of glass and pottery equipment that allows full exploration of both our crafts, Pottery and Stained glass. We also have a range of Kilns for ceramics and glass including super-fast Dutch Hoaf gas glass kilns. We often encourage clients who may be commissioning us to come to workshop so we can select exactly the right tones of glass or pottery glaze. Matthew offers one day weekend classes, evening classes and even private sessions. Roop and Alice offer weekday classes, evening classes and weekend Raku and slip decorating courses. A returning student can also “rent a bench” for a small hourly rate having oversight to use of the kilns and equipment, working alongside us in the space.

We enjoy the sense of a shared making space and it is interesting to see how elements of crafts cross over. We also welcome other artist/makers into the space for exhibiting and running classes.
